For Mother’s Day, The Times asked readers to tell us about the mother figures in their lives. When I showed up, Linda, my host mother, picked me up from the bus stop and made me tea and crumpets. If I had a nightmare and woke my mother up, she would tell me to climb into bed with Rita.
